From Mechanical Engineer to Calgary Wood Works
Engineering Meets Craftsmanship
Before starting Calgary Wood Works, I worked in the oil and gas industry as a mechanical engineer. That career gave me a deep foundation in design, precision, problem-solving, and finding more efficient ways to build and manufacture — skills that turned out to be just as valuable in a woodworking shop as on an engineering project.
About six years ago, I made the decision to leave oil and gas and pursue custom woodworking full-time. I invested in the business, expanded our capabilities, and built Calgary Wood Works into a dedicated custom furniture operation focused on quality and craftsmanship.
My engineering background continues to shape how we work every day. I have designed and built specialized machines and equipment of my own to help us produce large custom tables faster, more accurately, and more efficiently — while maintaining the quality of truly handcrafted furniture. Engineering thinking applied to woodworking means better results for our clients.
Calgary Wood Works has grown significantly since we began. Today we build substantial custom projects for residential homeowners, interior designers, and commercial clients across Calgary and Canada — from custom dining tables and live-edge slabs to conference tables, floating shelves, fireplace mantels, and countertops.
Every piece is made to order with careful attention to the wood, dimensions, design, and finish. We are proudly based in Calgary, Alberta, and ship our custom furniture to clients across Canada.

Every build starts with slab selection. We source premium solid hardwoods — walnut, maple, elm, red oak, and maple burl — chosen for their grain character, structural integrity, and natural beauty.
We don't use veneers, engineered wood, or shortcuts. Every surface you touch is solid wood, all the way through.

Once approved, we source your slab, mill it to spec, and begin the build. Lead time is typically 6–10 weeks depending on complexity.

Delivery across Canada
We carefully pack and ship your finished piece anywhere in Canada. White-glove delivery available in the Calgary area.
